Archival Instruction
The ACRL Competencies require that professionals be able to provide instruction in the use of their collections for researchers, who often are unfamiliar with archival practices. I often do this sort of instruction in the course of my reference interactions: see some of my answers above under reference. Besides these small-scale, individual situations, I selected the issue of archival orientation and archival anxiety as the focus for my study in LIS 560: Instructional Training for Information Professionals. Of course, I do a great deal of general instruction in history through my presentations, as well as mechanical instruction on bicycle repair and maintenance through Bainbridge Island Parks & Recreation.
