I enjoy talking to people about all sorts of history, in all sorts of venues. One thing I particularly enjoy is attending vintage car shows with my lovingly maintained 1982 Delorean. I view my ownership of this functional artifact as an ongoing exercise in conservation and historical interpretation. The car attracts all sorts of people, and makes it easy to begin conversations with anyone. These talks give me a chance to correct the many misconceptions people have about the car and its interesting place in history.
I recently acquired an additional vehicle with an interesting history: a 1972 Lotus Europa Twin-Cam. I look forward to a long restoration process and many more educational conversations at car shows!
This video interview, which was filmed in Issaquah, WA in May of 2009 and aired on a TV show, demonstrates how I balance the history lesson with other elements to make for an interesting presentation, and also the interviewer takes the opportunity to describe how much talking I usually do at these events.
